Olive oil is indubitably one of the most recognized components of the Mediterranean Diet. The main source of fat in a healthy diet should come from olive oil, which contains vitamin E, natural antioxidants, monounsaturated fats and oleic acid. Therefore, it's a heart-healthy product since it contains unsaturated fats, as opposed to saturated fats.

From a culinary standpoint, olive oil connects all of the food in the Mediterranean Diet, since it pairs perfectly with bread, vegetables and fish. The different types of olives harvested at different stages of ripeness allow consumers to choose the type of oil they prefer for each dish.
